Sarai Cooking System

Sarai Cooking System

Partner: Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI)

Design Impact partnered with ARTI in Phaltan (Maharashtra), India from 2012-2013 to improve their Sarai Cooking System, a clean burning stove that reduces carbon monoxide and particle emissions by over 90% in comparison to traditional stoves. The purpose of this project was to improve the core design and functionality of the stove and produce it at a price affordable to low-income rural communities. Design Impact was successful in developing a Sarai stove prototype that lowers indoor smoke and pollutants which leave women and children particularly susceptible to serious health issues such as lung disease.
