“The majority of the world’s designers focus all their efforts on developing products and services exclusively for the richest 10% of the world’s customers. Nothing less than a revolution in design is needed to reach the other 90%.”
—Dr. Paul Polak

Overview

“Our office was working on a somewhat controversial policy reform issue at the local government level. D-Impact helped us view the meaning of our advocacy effort from the perspective of many different interest groups. Out of that, we were better equipped to craft a relevant, impactful message that framed our issue as in the best interest of the entire city. And justice prevailed and we won! Thanks, D-Impact!”

--Stephen Johnson Grove, Attorney, Ohio Justice & Policy Center

“I really wanted to thank you for offering the design workshop today. It was fantastic. When I decided on engineering, this is the sort of thing I was looking for. I hope to take this mindset and process and apply it to all I can! Thanks!”

--Maria Heath, student, Engineers Without Borders, Missouri S&T

In addition to Design Impact’s work with fellows, we provide educational and consultant services to non-profits, universities, and businesses.

Below are a few examples of this work:

  • Ohio Justice and Policy Center (OJPC):
Design Impact led a two day brainstorming session that enabled OJPC staff to plan and visualize a campaign to change city hiring laws for ex-offenders.
  • India Habitat Center (IHC):
Design Impact led a five day design workshop with high-school students at IHC. The students learned about the design process and created educational flyers for their community using open source software.
  • Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST):
Design Impact led a seminar and workshop on human centered design for faculty and staff.
  • Proctor and Gamble (PG):
Design Impact created an educational and inspirational presentation for core staff on an off-site design summit.
  • University of Cincinnati (UC):
Design Impact taught a multi-disciplinary, quarter-long course for UC honors students that culminated in design project implementation in Gujarat, India.
