“People think that design is styling. Design is not style. It’s not about giving shape to the shell and not giving a damn about the guts. Good design is a renaissance attitude that combines technology, cognitive science, human need, and beauty to produce something that the world didn’t know it was missing.”

Design Impact's 10-month Fellowship Program partners American and International designers with community-based non-profit organizations. Fellows grow their professional design skills by receiving hands-on training from design experts and sector-specific consultants while participating in an immersive design program. Although the fellows rotate over time, the community organization stays in consistent partnership with Design Impact staff so the projects continue to move forward.

Each fellow lives and works side-by-side with their host organization and local community. Design Impact has experience working in India and has developed local project placements for the fellowship program. India is home to a third of the world's poor, but also offers incredible innovation networks and opportunities for design engagements. Design Impact plans to scale to other countries in the upcoming years as well.

Design Impact's Fellowships are open to a wide range of candidates. We prefer applicants who demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation, a strong ability to develop professional and interpersonal relationships, and have at least three years of professional experience (preferably in some area of design or a related field).
