Become a Fellow

Design Impact currently partners with five Indian organizations through the Fellowship program. In 2012 we plan to continue these projects and add new ones to the program. Our call for Fellows is now open through February 28th, 2012. Read below for details, or download the 2012 Fellowship PDF for a full description!

As a Design Impact Fellow you will:

  • Live and work for ten months amongst the challenges faced by resource-poor communities.
  • Learn about international development and non-profit structures from a unique perspective.
  • Play a leadership role on a design project that has measurable positive outcomes for society.
  • Use your design skills in non-traditional functions such as organizational capacity building, product distribution patterns, partnership development, and solution implementation.

Minimum requirements include:

  • 3 years (experience) working in the field of design
  • Bachelor’s degree in design or related field (art, engineering, marketing, non-profit management, business, planning)
  • Strong communication skills, positive attitude, highly curious and desiring to work with people from various backgrounds, cultures, and income-levels
  • English language fluency
  • Self-motivation, performing with minimal supervision, exercising good judgment and decision-making as needed
  • The ability to travel and live in India for ten months
  • A laptop computer and thorough knowledge of relevant software (Adobe Suite, CAD, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • 2 years project management preferred

Application Process

  • Fellows will be chosen from an international pool of applicants.
  • Send resume with in-depth letter elaborating on your interest and relevant experience to ramsey@d-impact.org, attention Ramsey Ford.
  • Applications must be received by February 28th, 2012.
  • For selected applicants, a work sample (March 19th) and interview (March 31st) will be required.
  • Final Fellow selection will be made by April 15th.
  • The 2012 Fellowship begins on July 1st, 2012

Design Impact's Fellowships are open to a wide range of candidates. We prefer applicants who demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation, a strong ability to develop professional and interpersonal relationships, and have at least three years of professional experience (preferably in some area of design or a related field).
