Ramsey brings a wealth of design and entrepreneurship experience to the Design Impact team. He has practiced design from a variety of perspectives; working as a freelancer, contractor, project manager, and full time designer for a diverse group of product-design consultancies. He has designed and marketed his own craft-based and industrial-based products, and teaches Design at the University of Cincinnati. Before founding Design Impact, he focused his Masters thesis on “Design and Empowerment: Learning from Community Organizing”. Through numerous workshops, published articles, and speaking engagements, Ramsey has helped to further the conversation on inclusive design in the social sector. He received an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design from the University of Cincinnati in 2003 and a Master’s of Design from the same in 2009.
Kate has over ten years of professional experience in various non-profit positions. Before founding Design Impact, she led strategic planning and non-profit capacity building as the Development Director for the Ohio Justice & Policy Center, a non-profit law firm that works for criminal justice reform. After earning her Master’s degree in Education in 2005, she spent four years as a high school Language Arts teacher for students in a low-income, under-performing district. She has lived and worked internationally, leading youth development and program management initiatives in India, Jamaica, and New Zealand. In addition to leading Design Impact, she currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati Honors College, working with an interdisciplinary team of students on development projects in India. Her experience working with communities affected by poverty in multiple areas of the world drives her passion for positive social change.
Anuradha studied at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, Mumbai), specializing in Urban and Rural Community Development. She has worked in the development sector in India for over fifteen years on natural resource management, capacity building and rural livelihoods. She has also worked in emergency relief situations on some of India’s worst natural and artificially-incited disasters. Anuradha received the British Council-supported Chevening Scholarship to attended a course on ‘Environmental Management and Sustainable Development’ at the University of Bangor, North Wales, UK. She is also a recipient of the Fulbright fellowship and spent a semester at the Cornell University studying multi-disciplinary development planning. She wrote and presented a paper titled ‘Development paradigms, Feminist thoughts and Commons: A Theoretical Intersection’ in the Eleventh Biennial Conference of the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC). Anuradha is passionate about craft-based livelihoods, fair trade and environment-friendly living.
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University, where she completed a double major and minor in Geography, Urban Planning and Entrepreneurship, respectively. Having immersed herself in the study of international affairs, non-profit management and social entrepreneurship through a variety of academic and professional experiences, Sarah prides herself on taking the path less followed in a saturated market of homogenous degrees and skill sets. Her senior thesis focused on examining the ways in which organizational capacity and local ownership is built by social entrepreneurial organizations. Before joining Design Impact, she spent time in Guatemala working with Ashoka fellow, Greg Van Kirk and his internationally recognized Micro-Consignment Model—an innovative tool used to deliver life-improving products and services to underserved communities across Central and South America. Drawing upon her experiences in both the for-profit and non-profit sector, Sarah is passionate about using the power of design and entrepreneurship to bring about large-scale social change where it is needed most.
